Join Shared World Collective for a powerful act of collective remembrance and cultural resilience. Tatreez for Peace is a participatory textile installation that invites community members to contribute red Tatreez (cross-stitch) embroidery to a traditional Palestinian abaya dress—each stitch representing a life lost in Gaza since October 7th, 2023.

Rooted in centuries-old Palestinian craft, Tatreez is a symbolic embroidery style unique to each region and village. Through this collaborative work, we honour memory, culture, and the ongoing call for peace and justice.

The Embroidery Circle
Seated together on traditional Arabic floor cushions, participants will be guided through the simple cross-stitch technique and invited into quiet reflection and conversation. This experience is open to all—no prior embroidery experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided.

The Dress
Made from upcycled cotton and thread salvaged from past projects, the abaya features the poem Moon Over Gaza by Naomi Shihab Nye embroidered across its front and back. As the red stitches accumulate, the garment becomes a collective artwork—a living archive of grief, remembrance, and solidarity, shaped by many hands.
