Alissa Herbaly Coons

Alissa is a writer, editor, and teacher interested in the power of visual art and storytelling to make sense of migration experiences. A migrant to Australia and a local in Newcastle, she has also lived and worked in North America and in Europe. She recently completed a PhD in Creative Practice at UNSW, Sydney, on ethics and genre, and is at work on a novel drawn from the life story of a Hungarian woman who settled in Australia as a political dissident in the 1980s.

Katrina Flett Gulbrandsen

Katrina is an activist passionate about visual storytelling, textile art, and supporting displaced people. In addition to her creative and curatorial projects, she has worked in developing and facilitating programs for socially-minded not-for-profit organisations in Hungary, Jordan, Norway and Australia. She holds an M.A. from Oxford Brookes University in Development and Emergency Practice with a focus on human rights and forced migration. She has exhibited her photography in Australia and abroad, and is happiest in Italy, picnicking under an olive tree.
