Skin Remembers:

Identities of the few

Summer 2019. Voices of the Refugess — ARKIVET Peace and Human Rights Centre in collaboration with HL-senteret — the Norwegian Center for Holocaust and Minority Studies

Skin Remembers is an audio-visual exhibition in which individuals with a minority background from Iraq, Palestine, Syria and Sàpmi share their thoughts and feelings on identity.

The physical exhibition presented a collection of minority stories and identities expressed through a variety of creative forms. Through film, photography, animation, dance, music and poetry, we introduced a diverse group of individuals, and became more familiar with their experiences and unique identities. The digital exhibition continues online at Be Heard.

Results: By acknowledging these individual stories, we aim to promote an inclusive and diverse society, where all people feel valued and free to be themselves. We hope that the exhibition would be a small but important step towards fighting xenophobia.

DAnce & Identity

This film was made for the temporary exhibition Skin Remembers at ARKIVET Peace and Human Rights Center in Kristiansand, Norway 2019. In the film we meet the dancer Ahmad Joudeh and the performing artist Stina Ravdna Lorås. They come from two totally different worlds but share the same struggle in fighting for their identity and the same passion for expressing themselves through dance and bodily movements. By acknowledging their stories, we aim to promote an inclusive and diverse society, where all people feel valued and free to be themselves. The film “Skin Remembers: Stories and identities of the few” produced by Solveig Hessaa-Szwinto for ARKIVET Peace and Human Rights Center is Copyright © 2019 by ARKIVET freds- og menneskerettighetssenter.
