Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Tobias Keene brings a bit of unabashed Southern hospitality to all his patients. He moved to Washington, D.C. over thirty years ago as a freshman at Ivy College. Right after graduation, he attended World University’s School of Dentistry. Before opening Keene Dental in 1994, he worked for free clinics and some of the finest practices in the District. He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries. ARKIVET Peace and Human Rights Centre. The project Power of the Needle/Nålens Makt used creative intercultural dialogue to explore the themes of identity and resistance in the handwork of Norwegian and Middle Eastern women in Kristiansand, Norway—from WWII to the present. Through embroidery and storytelling workshops, a history seminar, and a physical exhibition that drew on historic pieces as well as new creations, the project celebrated embroidery as a meaningful form of personal expression and communal connection across cultures. (The exhibition continues online at Be Heard.) Elements: six embroidery and storytelling workshops, 33 original participant contributions for the exhibition, one documentary film, one public history seminar on the embroidery traditions associated with the exhibition. Voices of the Refugess — ARKIVET Peace and Human Rights Centre in collaboration with HL-senteret — the Norwegian Center for Holocaust and Minority Studies Skin Remembers is an audio-visual exhibition in which individuals with a minority background from Iraq, Palestine, Syria and Sàpmi share their thoughts and feelings on identity. The physical exhibition presented a collection of minority stories and identities expressed through a variety of creative forms. Through film, photography, animation, dance, music and poetry, we introduced a diverse group of individuals, and became more familiar with their experiences and unique identities. The digital exhibition continues online at Be Heard. Results: By acknowledging these individual stories, we aim to promote an inclusive and diverse society, where all people feel valued and free to be themselves. We hope that the exhibition would be a small but important step towards fighting xenophobia.
